Dynamic Water Tightness Performance Test

Dynamic Water Penetration Performance Test

Evaluates the resistance to water infiltration and sealing performance of building materials under external wind pressure and water spray conditions.

Test Principles and Procedures

This test is primarily conducted in accordance with CNS 13973 or AAMA 501.1 standards, and is widely recognized in the industry as one of the most demanding performance tests.

  • Aircraft Engine Wind Simulation:
Large aircraft engines or high-powered blowers are used to generate dynamic airflow on the exterior side of the specimen, simulating design wind pressures with wind speeds exceeding 100 km/h.
  • Simultaneous Dynamic Wind and Water Exposure:
A controlled volume of water is sprayed simultaneously under intense turbulent airflow, simulating extreme conditions where rainwater is forcefully driven into joints and gaps by strong winds.
  • Structural Movement Observation:
The test evaluates whether gaskets and structural joints maintain watertight integrity when the curtain wall undergoes vibration and displacement caused by wind pressure.

Why Do You Need Dynamic Testing?

  • Simulates Real Turbulent Conditions:
Static testing cannot replicate the pulsating effects of wind pressure. Dynamic testing can identify whether gasket vibration under fluctuating wind loads creates a “pumping action” that leads to water leakage.
  • Verifies Joint Flexibility and Durability:
Confirms that the curtain wall system can maintain reliable water-tight performance even under minor structural movements induced by high wind pressure.
  • Protects High-Value Assets:
For buildings containing precision equipment rooms, luxury interior finishes, or other sensitive environments, dynamic testing provides a higher level of assurance and minimizes the risk of water intrusion.
